Values Clarification: A Tool for Engaging with Clients in Difficult Circumstances

June 3, 2020

Presented by Lisa Davis, PhD, LCSW

Identifying and claiming our own and our clients’ core values is a process that can help set the stage for engaging in a meaningful and impactful helping relationship.  This training will focus on two levels of values clarification, identifying and connecting with our own values as practitioners along with uncovering and joining with clients’ core values as a means of developing a therapeutic alliance and leverage for change.  We will explore ways in which behaviors that often seem problematic among clients may represent the expression of underlying values that can be claimed and reframed as the basis for an effective working relationship.  Additionally, connecting with our values related to our role as providers can further promote client engagement as well as building our own wellbeing and resilience.
